King Faisal president Alhaji Karim Gruzah has praised Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah for naming what he describes as a ‘formidable’ pre-World Cup squad.

Appiah made three surprise calls in Jeff Schlupp, David Accam and promising youngster Afriyie Acquah in his 26-man squad for next month’s tournament in Brazil.

Veteran campaigners John Mensah and Anthony Annan were casualties after being heavily tipped to make a return to the team after months of absence.

Gruzah says the decision to include only active players shows the ex-Ghana captain a lot of guts and deserves commendation.

“The squad is very good and couldn’t have been any better,” Grusah told GHANASoccernet.com

“This is the best we have in our country and he couldn’t have been more spot on. My advice to the media is to be unbiased and throw their support behind the coach so we all have the success we desire.

“I have been hugely pressed by his decision to call up this squad and the team I must say looks a formidable one.”

Ghana will now play a friendly game with a locally assembled side on 23 May before they emplane to Rotterdam or a residential camping.

The Black Stars will face Holland on 31 May and will next to the United States the next day to continue preparations.
