Striker David Accam responded to his Ghana snub for the 2014 World Cup by scoring the winner and winning the Man-of-the-Match award in Helsingborg’s 1-0 win over Falkenberg on Sunday.

It took the 23-year-old just 26 minutes to find his mark having been thrown in as an 18th minute substitute for Robin Simovic.

The Right to Dream Academy graduate had arrived disappointingly from the Black Stars camp in the Netherlands where he was dropped from the final squad for the World Cup a few hours to the game.

Accam however shook off his massive disappointment to score to help his side to their first win in four games in the Swedish top flight.

The ex Ostersunds’ striker drew inspiration from his ex academy teammate Majeed Waris – who responded to his 2013 Nations Cup snub by scoring FIVE goals while at BK Hacken – to wage his own ‘I told you so’ campaign.

He was not given a chance to prove himself in the 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands in an international friendly before the final squad was named.

Accam had however featured in an earlier exhibition match in Accra where the Black Stars romped a locally select side 6-1.

The 23-year-old was however not picked alongside injured Jerry Akaminko and Jeffrey Schlupp by coach Kwesi Appiah in naming his final 23-man squad for the World Cup in Brazil on Sunday morning.

Accam has now scored seven goals in 10 appearances for Helsingborg in the Swedish top flight - a form that earned him a place in the provisional Ghana squad in the first place.

The Black Stars have since left for the final leg of their preparations in the USA where they are scheduled to play their final friendly match against Korea Republic before travelling to Brazil for the World Cup.
