2013 AFCON LOC chief Nonkonyana brands Essien as egotistical

2013 AFCON LOC chairman Nonkonyana slams Essien

South Africa 2013 Local Organising Committee chairman Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana has questioned the commitment of Ghana star Michael Essien and branded him as selfish.

The Real Madrid star, who turned 30 on Monday, has asked to be excused by Ghana for playing at the Nations Cup to fitness concerns.

The Chelsea loanee’s decision has angered the LOC chairman who has branded him as selfish.

“That is selfishness in my view; it is very egotistical. It is time to instil in every player national pride.” Nonkonyana told The Echo

“It cannot be right for any player produced [in Africa] to say I prefer my club.

“‘It is time now for players to be proud of their own nations. The gentlemen we are talking about, they are megastars now as a direct result of the contribution of their national associations,’”

Mwelo needs to shut up. Just because he’s been getting some game at real doesn’t mean he’s 100% yet. He’s still recuperating. You can tell by the way he plays. Give him a chance to get his fitness back. I would do the same if i was him. The money he makes from his club pays his bills.

carry on Michael,we are more than happy to give you 10 years to warm the bench of chelsea, you are fast running out of football time, we prefer more younger, fitter, injury free, committed players.and did i hear you were 30?. is that ur football age or real age? better tell own up to your real age for the right medicine to work on you. For me you have never been commited to the national course so stop worrying our ears with your tired and injury prone legs.

  5. Blow says:

Tell that chief to focus on bringing Steve Pienner out of retirement and leave Essien alone.
