Former flag-bearer of Ghana’s opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo  believes the 'can-do-spirit of the Ghanaian' will see the Black Stars excel  at the 2014 World Cup which starts in Brazil on Thursday.

The 2012 leader of the country’s biggest opposition party is confident the players to rise up to the occasion and make Ghana and Africa proud.

The highly-respected and popular Ghanaian politician believes unity and the ‘can-do-spirit of the Ghanaian’ will propel them to greater heights.

"I have no doubt whatsoever that, again, in Brazil, with a group consisting of Germany, Portugal and the USA, the Black Stars will shine even brighter,” Nana Addo said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

"I believe strongly that with unity, determination and hard work from captain Asamoah Gyan and our players, the Kwesi Appiah-led technical team and management, and the unflinching support of us all, the Black Stars will make us proud. Best of luck! God bless!"

The Black Stars recorded a comprehensive 4-0 win over South Korea in their final pre-World Cup on Monday night in Miami.

The team will fly out to Brazil later on Tuesday ahead of the start of the World Cup on Thursday June 12.

The Black Stars have drawn USA, Germany and Portugal in group G.
